Apologies for asking so early on this but i have gone as far as I can.
Clue is - Young salmon; some mums did it for children in winter.(5)
I have S?W?N which I am sure of.
Chambers(10th) gives the following -
SEWIN or SEWEN [n] the Welsh and Irish name for a sea-trout grilse.
It would appear that one of the above is the answer but I can't see it in the clue.
Any thoughts or explanation would be gratefully received.
