Those two are the key to the theme!

Think 'kangaroo' & 'constallation' .

Happy New Year
Excuse the typo -should be constellation.

Thank you, K, I thought 47 and 7 were that, and that these two were two more ports en route, so to speak. All the best to you for 2010.
Sorry K, but this is getting ridiculous! This is day 1 of this crossword, which doesn't need to be submitted until 18th Jan!! ;-(

Sorry MLN,but it wasn't K - I asked the question and, like K, do them the moment they come out. By Jan 18th I'll be well into the one that comes in two weeks' time, plus Indies, Listeners, Azeds and even the new Otterdens in the NS. And K's answer certainly didn't spoil it for anyone.
I was at the same stage as Robinruth and was grateful for Kayakamina's help. As I'm in New Zealand, I need to complete and post the Speccie as soon as it comes out...
Hi Ruthrobin
Do you know if the NS Otterdens are going to be available online?
Hi Mark (MLN)

I understand your frustration and sympathise up to a point.

You will not stop people asking for help and I do my best to make any hints I give as cryptic as possible.
I do not believe that the small nudge I gave to Robin was of much use except for those who had already deduced the theme.

Regards K
Seeing the solution to 1943 on this page, I must admit to being puzzled by Doc's supposed correct solutions to 3 down, 14 across and 29 across. I had differing answers, which I was convinced were correct ('spasmic', 'eau' and 'mosey') and am at a loss to see how Doc's variants can be considered correct. Can anyone offer an explanation - or perhap's Doc's mail address? Thanks.
Ironie, I have exactly the same variations as you to 1943, they seem perfectly valid. There has been an email address for Doc (@spectator.co.uk) included with some puzzles but not for the last few weeks.
i had those answers too for 1943. must be a strange typo. here's another e-mail for Doc: [email protected].
let us know if you get a response.
well spotted ironie.. I never usually bother checking back as one generally knows if one has it right or not.
Whilst I wasn't happy with the abbreviation at 14 across at the time of entry I'm sure we are right.
Possibly the answers in the printed solution were "dictated" for someone to fill in as they sound very roughly similar.
I mailed Doc ([email protected]), who confirmed the errors in his reply. Quote:' Yes there are errors and your suggestions for the correct solutions are all absolutely right. I was unaware of the problem and I have yet to receive a copy of the offending issue. HQ used the incorrect solution grid, as the puzzle was amended after discussion and editing but the errors lie with them concerning publication.' Incidentally, 42 across is also wrong!
Thanks Ironie
