grand stand ?
Spectators sit in the Grandstand and the batsmen might make a grand stand

Thanks Sandy - I could see from the first bit it was grandstand but couldn't connect it with the last part - thank you to all of you who answered
A cricket 'stand' by implication means two batsmen keeping their wickets safe and also scoring ie making a 'stand' viz last pair in last Test Eng. v. S Africa.
