I am still in the dark regarding the completion of above . 2 down and 29 down giving huge problems and although have discovered links to 35a, 21d and 48d I still have noclue how to completethe five 4- letter words (?) . i had no trouble in completing last week's offering but my mathematical brain is not functioning well at the moment, and any broad hints and would be very acceptable. It seems I'm also fighting a battle in 2010.

2d has 9 letters, 29d has 7, with the cells checked by the intersecting 4-cell light containing the 'extra' letters (which of course convert to a digit). PM is the definition in 29d, 'subtlety' in 2d is finesse.
