Very helpful title this week. The reference to an author in the preamble made it even more accessible. The biggest problem was fitting the 33 jumbled answers into the grid.
On last week's EV thread I "advertised" or local MacMillan quiz - 80 questions, all general knowledge ( nothing cryptic ) - available from

title was not so helpful on this side of the pond. The preamble had me dreading the solving (all those jumbles) but filling the grid was not as bad as I thought (actually finished it last night). Having never heard of the author, some Googling was needed to tie the title to the rectangles. Quite amazing that everything fit in so neatly when all was said and done. A cold rainy Sunday here in the US midwest - a good day to stay inside & watch Olympics. USA/Canada hockey tonight!
Hello all, not had a look yet, saving it for up the wooden..... Off to Brum with Himself tomorrow it's conference stir up time and find a politician to heckle, all good fun. Will take it with me and try my hardest without the trusty library at my side. Will probably be begging for hints on Weds night.
Have you got much snow drb? We had 3 flakes today but I understand further S it was rather treacherous.
Hello Novalis and dr b,
Have had 4 visitors since wednesday, didn't know they were coming until tuesday at 18.00. They included a 12 year old boy and his 14 sister and their parents. Only just left, so have to rebuild the house before being able to tackle EV!!
An absolutely excellent puzzle, I thought. Required a clear head, but an extremely clever construction, and even allowing for the extra options that jumbles give, very neatly fitted together. Thanks Piccadilly
All sounds very interesting. We are on our last leg - back in gambling city prior to flying out tomorrow. Skiing was excellent but driving down today an example of good road clearance - it snowed solidly for 300 miles! We had to stop twice to clear the frozen slush off the lights and de-ice the windcreen wipers which were getting further and further away from the bit they were meant to be clearing. In old money the temperature as we left was 11 degrees. The h-g is looking forward to getting back to his beloved bricks next week - he is not a convert to the tiny screen I have brought with me :(. Have fun on the heckling Dd - how was the girls' gettogether?
An enjoyable (?) grid fill, though as gen2 said the bottom right corner was a bit tricky. I have the two crews but am I missing something ? Their letters are 8 and 7 so how can you make a rectangle of the latter ? I pencilled in the grid first ; I have coloured in black all of the available letters (16 for the first group in top left corner and 11 for the secondon the right hand side) but I still don't "see" it ! What am I missing ? Any gentle hints gratefully received !!!
Made a start over lunch and quickly filled in top half of puzzle, but have not been able to get back to it since. Enjoying it so far and already in awe of the compiler.
