Evening all. The toughest for a while, I thought. And might there be an error in 3dn ? The wordplay suggests an S as the third letter, while the grid seems to require a T. I'd be delighted to be shown the error of my ways.

At last completed! Found this difficult and slow going. I agree on the apparant anomaly in 3d. The only alternative I have is sitter for nurse, but can't see how sit and ter(m) would tie in with the word play.

This is the Telegraph's response to a poster on The Crossword Centre who queried 3dn:

"...This Sunday (21/03) we will print that there was a mistake in the clue 3 down; we will give the correct clue; we will not reveal the two possible answers, and we are going to extend the closing date to Friday 26/03.

After a start on Sunday I've only just ben able to come back to this and I'm struggling.
Thanks to the people who have already given hints.
I managed to get the quote early but, as with others, 3d was troublesome.
Hints to 17 across and 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 29 down would be much appreciated. As I've already said I'm really struggling but I'll go back to it now.

I want shooting. I'd assumed 7 across was entered normally!! Now have 8 and 9 down but 29 down is still haunting me. Any hints please?

novalis - 29a is a clever one; perhaps if you placed a comma after "isn't" that would break up the clue appropriately. 29 is "treat before entering." Have you got the quote? That would explain why 29, among others needs treating.

Reassuring to see that others are also stumped by the inconsistency at 3d - I have been tearing out what little is left of my hair trying to fit 'sister' there. As I don't buy the paper version, and the correction has not, as far as I know, been posted on the Telegraph CluedUp website, does anybody have the corrected version to share with the group? Thanks in advance...

The clue is "Model teacher embraces abstainer and me."

The other point is that the closing date remains unaltered.
