Hello EV N&C Wine Clubbers, plus TTers,
There shouldn't be anyone in the DC with this offering. Although one wonders if all these errant students will apply theirselves to best advantage! Apologies for missing last weeks thread, but Bruxelles was more demanding than expected! Eurostar compensated well though!
Time to consider what fodder will accompany the Tempranillo!

I breezed through 99% of this last night but am not completely happy with my 4th or 5th words that are provided by the corrected letters. Would you say that these words are more likely to be heard in the UK than the US? Also stuck on 38a.
But basketball has started so I will not be focusing on 38a too much! Doc, your Yellow Jackets are in action later today against Ohio State (where I was once a faculty member). Should we have a friendly wager? Loser must raise a glass to the winner, and, er, winner should raise a glass in victory. Deal?

Hello dr b,
I have problems with the 4th and 5th words provided by the correct letters. As far as 38a is concerned, you need to be thinking of removing a well known prophet, which rhymes with a Cathedral City here in the UK. I'd originally gone for removing someone else from an oil bearing seed, but which would have resulted in the same grid entry!
I'll agree to your suggestion about the outcome of the basketball match. I'd even be agreeable to raising one before it starts!
It would have been more elegant if the correct letters were the ones removed from the normal clues resulting in 4 letter entries.

By the way, I was one of the winners for the Crossword Centre's February puzzle:

Many gz dr b - yay indeed for you! Agree with your thoughts on the 4th and 5th words. It would look like an attack of the killer Sunday Times bug.... Oh, and glad to see that your daughter has added to her blog; I was beginning to worry that the 9-5 lifestyle had become too much! I loved her picture of the market.
