no one expects the spanish inquisition

I thought The Inquisition had died out in mediaeval times.
But for the 24 years preceding his election as Pope Benedict XVI, Cardinal Ratzenberger was head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith (the CDF) ...
... a department of The Vatican formerly known as ... The Inquisition.
Priests and Cardinals who "strayed" from The Vatican's official line in their teachings and sermons were hauled before Cardinal Razenberger, and "investigated".
One practice which particularly incurred the Cardinal's wrath was the Betrayal of the Confidence of the Papacy.
Or, to put it in simple terms ... if you told the authorities about any Priest who was shagging children, you would be hauled before Carinal Ratzenberger for punishment.
It's always interesting to learn the background of the people who are chosen to be Pope.
Pope Benedict, Vicar of God, moral leader, Protector of Paedophiles, Punisher of anyone who reported the Paedophiles.
Interesting sort of chap.

Of course not. It is the Institution that is the Catholic Church that is corrupt. The people who have been forced to grow up from birth have been so indoctrinated that they think they will be in a state of limbo if they die with unconfessed sins which a priest has not absolved. I am glad I was not born into that particular form of fear of God.
RJKUL .I was sent to a catholic convent school, taught by nuns at times looking back they were very cruel, cane on finger tips, taking my biscuit money for the 'holy souls' but I think I had a good education. To blame the present pope for the past is surely like blaming Angela Merkel for Hitlers crimes
You have slighty misunderstood. I am not blaming the present pope at all. It is the Institution that is corrupt. Saying that, I cannot understand how anyone would wish to convert to it. All catholic parents must bring up their children as catholics so this is a self perpetuating Institution and has a fail safe method of ensuring its continuation in forbidding contraception so that the masses in poorer countries cannot fail to have several children.
