Anyone make any sense of the end game in this one - so far have five prefixes which link nicely to the title, but can't make any sense of the four unclued elements ("to be entered somewhat unconventionally") - any gentle hints gratefully received, even the knowledge that there is a solution would be nice to know?

Thanks doorbell - all makes sense now - there are indeed 6 thematic words copelander. One I'd never heard of, but in keeping with the other ones.

I too have found 6 - but one of them is at 1D. Have I missed something or is this right?

I have at last figured out how the unclued entries work, but I can't decide exactly what should be filled in - one letter or more. And I only see one prefix in the middle row. Could somebody please give me a nudge.

RossR - you are looking for a symmetrically placed alternative term (used in Ireland).
And yes, more than one letter - "somewhat unconventionally".
