Welcome to Title Builder Beta.

This small piece of kit is designed to make building your Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle question more effective. It should make finding your question easier for others and, the easier it is to find, the more likely someone is to answer it!

To build an easy to find question title simply select the paper and quiz, enter the quiz number if relevant and fill in the Publication Date. Once you’re happy click “Build Title” and the information should populate the Title field. Fill in the final required details of your question as you normally would, and click submit.

As this is a Beta we only have a limited number of papers and quizzes listed. If you think your favourite Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle should be listed here don’t hesitate to contact us.

Remember: You do not have to use the title builder - simply enter the title and question as you normally would and click submit!

Incidentally bibblebub- is my memory playing tricks or was this spelt manœvre (with o and e joined together) when i was at school?

factor30 - I can't remember spelling it differently in the past but it's not a word that crops up often enough to be memorable. Doesn't mean that it didn't happen.

You are right, factor30. They were called diphthongs (ae, oe, etc). They are largely ignored now because of modern word-processing methods.

I never wore a dipthong in the 60s but I can remember words such as Encyclopædia with the a and e joined together as æ. Other examples of œ were onomatopœia and fœtus The symbols are available on Word but I never see them used. It does look a little odd /pretentious now to join letters together.
Incidentally I hate the US spelling of manoeuvre which is maneuver - I think that does look odd.
I can also remember when we used hyphens in to-day and to-morrow. That certainly looks odd now.
