I don't have my copy with me, just going by a completely crossword illiterate friend's empty grid, but I remember I did not have that one. Can't remember some of the answers I put in for cross reference of letters. I have managed to find all the word ladder, most words I have never heard of but got by referring to the dictionary and process of elimination and addition of letters. Is there supposed to be a connection between the first and last words (I think Stephen and Matilda)?

Obviously the prizes are not the reason most of us do the more advanced cryptic crosswords -it's the intellectual challenge. What made the Inquisitor different was that the champagne was a fun prize, and in my case made my pastime more acceptable to the family who are usually underwhelmed by the whole thing.
