Interesting at his lack of remorse when he says..

"Do you really think I give a flying ****?"

Also the judge seems very sympathetic and chummy with him

But yesterday, a judge praised Wicks for leading a ‘respectable and successful’ life and described the fateful argument as a ‘tiff’ as he handed down sentence.

he said that at the time, after a fair bit of wine, not in court, and it's not at all clear what he was talking about - it seems to have been about police procedures, not about her death. It is unwise to draw conclusions from a Daily Mail report rather than from hearing the whole case, as the judge did.

Still, quite a lucky chap.

Ok I agree that we don't know the full story but I always ask myself in cases like this would the same sentence have been passed to a long time unemployed man on benefits also of previously good character? Or has this mans social standing effected the outcome?
It was manslaughter....

I will never condone domestic violence but no one (except maybe the judge) knows what made him snap. Many wifes get beaten on a weekly basis (and men) from the paper it says that this was a one off...

How many people have had to stop themselves from striking out? I know I have on quite a few occasions....
Question Author
Ummm you have to stop yourself striking your wife? Well it sounds like either you have an anger problem or maybe your wife provokes you? Either way get advice and sort it out before you end up hauled in front of the courts like this chap.
I thought ummmm was female Full.
The killer is a 48 year old. I would think it unlikely that this was the first time he'd assaulted his wife.
He was lucky with his judge.
Lol....I'm a girl.

I have been so angry in the past that I have had to stop myself hitting. This is not something that has ever happened on a regular basis. I didn't though...so my anger is not an issue. I was just saying I can understand how some people sometimes lose it.

You need to know what's going on in their private lives before you can pass judgement...

Im sorry ummm no offense as your profile picture is of a man I believe and there's no way to see what sex we all are when you have a neutral name.
That's ok...It's professor Moriarty.
Question Author
Well ummm I know we haven't got the full facts but when do we ever where the news is concerned? We just have to play devils advocate and go on what we have for debates sake.
Question Author
Sorry ummm did you mean you want me to address you as It's professor Moriarty?
If he had been of a certain religious persuasion he might have been let off so as not to offend against his cultural customs.
Question Author
Mcmouse what do you mean? This man was white and british and treated super leniently already was he not?
No...lol. Ummmm is fine :-)

Just saying that domestic violence happens....not many victims die from one blow. I've had worse done to me.

Sandy...it is possible it's a one off.
In some culture it's acceptable to beat your wife...
There are towns in UK where the local authority and police do not react to domestic violence where there are cultural sensitivities.
While the sentence seems short, the man will have to live with the knowledge he killed his own wife.

Assuming he had a decent (up to that point) relationship with her, this is going to haunt him till he dies.

I can imagine it may also cause problems if he meets another woman.

She: Are you single, divorced, widowed?

He: I am a widower. I killed my wife by hitting her

End of relationship.
Whereas I do not in anyway condone violence, alot has been said regarding this man snapping and with one blow killing his wife.

But nothing has been said about the wife being the first to use violence by throwing dinner plates at him.

We always hear about violence to women carried out by men, but little sympathy is given to all those men who happen to have violent wives, and from what I witness from some women today, they are just as powerful as men.
I mentioned men.
I'm not sure that throwing dinner plates carries the death penalty, even in Saudi Arabia.
