Listener 4098: Language Balancing by Schadenfreude

A fine piece of craftsmanship from Schadenfreude: I especially like the fact that "altered words consist only of real words" after a few recently that have included gibberish in the finished article. My only query is a practical one: when I created the polygon, it obscured some of my entries: maybe I'll have to write it out again and use a thinner marker.
A very pretty and elegant puzzle: appreciation and thanks to Schadenfreude.

There are obvious difficulties, but I'm willing to bet that if online entries were allowed, numbers would be quite a bit higher. Currently, I enter Saturday Times, Jumbo and Sunday Times online, which I would never otherwise do. Mephisto could be an online entry, but how we'd fold an onscreen Listener grid into a flappy bird (to recall just one) would be interesting.

The plethora of online assistance has certainly speeded up the solving process for many, and therefore made the puzzle more accessible to and enjoyable for those of us who have very little 'spare' time for crosswords, but as to whether today's puzzles are 'easier' than those published in The Listener, John Green for one thinks not. I keep meaning to try some of those 1980s puzzles using today's aids, to see if I find them any less impenetrable than when I was young and inexperienced ..... but I can't seem to find the time.

I have completed the puzzle and the drawing but I am still puzzled by 23ac saleem which doesn't appear in chambers,11 down lisles (where is the seat?) and 29down loggias (how does this work?) Sorry for being so blunt with the answers but I'm catching up as you can see

as my very early comment mentioned, I was in that same boat with saleem. It is in the appendix as a boys name. i cant remember the others off the top of my head

Thank you Midozolam. I have worked out loggias now but am still slightly irked by my inability to parse the clue for lisles which is: threads line se(a)ts in Skye perhaps. If you could be bothered to apply yourself again to this I could relax until i tackle double devilry!

looking at the clue now it looks like it should as follows:

lisles = threads
l = line + isles = sets in skye perhaps (there are numerous isles in skye)

so sets merely suggests that Skye is a group of islands then. If so this feels a little weak or am I missing something?

i remember what i thought now.

in chambers "isle" (the verb) = to set in an isle

so putting "skye, perhaps" is the alternative to using the same word
