have seen 25a answered as carroll - repeat both sides (l = left & r = right) -festive song = carol but can't remember the rest of the explanation
could well be beau cos a little boy would use a bow and beau is another name for sweetheart.

thank you very much both of you i think it is a bit tortuous perhaps the little boy is cupid or eros, using a bow? as for the lewis carroll being an oxford don you could hardly get more abstruse than that, merci encore
