HI all,
Long time since I've been on 'the bank'..
Can anyone enlighten me as to why 'EN' is used as an abbreviation for 'space' in crosswords?

Isn't "en" a printer's measurement? It may be to do with spacing letters I think.

Thanks Squarebear. Yes it is. I 'googled' it and it came up as being a printer's measure of half an 'EM' but I've never seen 'EM' used as an abbreviation for space in a crossword!!
