I'm stuck in the bottom right hand corner. 56A: Turned away, say and put out to dry. I have A?V?T?? It looks like "averted". I can see "AVER" but what's the "TED"? 51D: Girl's name entered in festival. If "averted" is roght, it's ?N?D. The only thing I can think of is "ENID" but I have no idea why. Explanations ould really be appreciated. I've finished the rest of it.
RocW. To 'ted' is to spread new-mown grass for drying. 'Enid' seems right- 'n' (name) in 'eid'. 'Eid...' or 'Id al-Adha' is the Muslim 'Feast of Sacrifice'.
