Would Wild Birds Eat Grapes If They Were...

I am by no means a computer buff and have only limited knowledge of pc technology so bear with my question. As my kids use the pc a lot it always seems to have adware, spyware and viruses on it. Until recently I only used the free version of AVG to check for viruses - and I must say it did a grand job. But all the while I couldn't help thinking that I would get better protection if I paid for an anti virus program. I eventually purchased, through amazon, Panda Titanium Anti virus 2004 as the price seemed very fair. I know that this does not deal with adware and spyware but I thought it would offer good virus protection. Anyway, query is, why does Panda only seem to find the same old viruses? It only ever seems to report back having found Trj/Qhost.y or Trj/qhost.vundo (or something along those lines). Last week my pc was running very slow so I downloaded the free version of avg again and ran it and was shocked when avg found loads of viruses - and keeps on reporting them when panda stays silent! Why is this? Panda is updated daily automatically so therefore should be at the forefront of virus detection - so why is avg finding all the horrors on my pc while Panda stays quiet? Should I have saved my cash and stuck with avg from the start? I would have thought that paying for protection as opposed to free protection would mean better protection - not always the case eh?

stevie21 is spot on with his reply, but if I may add with XP do you have the System Restore on?. I'd suggest run Panda Update....Unplug from the net...Run Panda...Create a new System point and delete all but the New or Latest Restore Point.
This way (in my opinion Panda does the job) you will find that any detected Trojans cannot reappear as they will be deleted and won't have the Restore in which to hide and reinfect your PC.
