I'm struggling with this. Have about a third but would appreciate some help with 1a. Think I know what it is but cannot reconcile it with 1d.

1a is a themed answer. You have to replace the 5 letter person with an 8 letter one.

1d Dowse ...Misprinted letter is T

DOSE ( medicine) W ( wife) = Put Out - after correction.

Thankyou so much, K. Everyone on the thread seemed to find it so easy.
Zita it is not easy until you have identified the theme from the misprinted letters, and even then there are some pretty obscure words.

If you need a push without wanting to give too much away here drop me a line.

Cheers K
Hi zita if it's any consolation I'm struggling as well :o)

Hi Judy, Feeling very thick. Bradford's is great isn't it?
Hello Zita,
Get a glass and fill it with some St Em, you need brain food. More often than not the title of an EV is a guide to the thematic answers, this is most definitely true this week. You'll need to think a bit laterally though, exercising those little grey cells! There may be the odd unusual word in the rest of the grid, but nothing too obscure, although you may need to check some alternative definitions in the BRB.
I'm now about to pour myself a Glenlivet to sip while preparing dinner.

Hello, DocHH. Have made a lot of progress with help. The theme is as I first thought but had trouble working out the method. Only four clues to solve and one solver to find. Think I may deserve a nice glass of red but can't stretch to St Em too often. Cheers.
In instances like this where the rubric says the word lengths refer to grid entries, just go for cold solving, and ignore the number in brackets at the end of the clue. Enjoy whatever you choose to drink this evening, I'll be washing my dinner down with the normal tempranillo!

Found my last solver. Two more clues to solve. Enjoy your temp.
