Prowl means to stalk. The L is left. My only quibble is that prow is the front of a ship, not the stern.
Prow = Stem - front part of ship
L = left
Prowl = stalk - move stealthily
prow being a synonym for stem.
Front of boats etc.
Prowl =stalk
That's how I see it.
I always thought that the prow was the opposite of the stern. Perhaps a seafarer will correct me.
Hi mike the clue is 'STEM on left stalk' not STERN' - I'm not shouting by the way - the two words are easily confused when in lower case.
