Donating your body to science

Before he died, my Grandad arranged for his body to be donated to Oxford Uni for medical research. I believe there was a sort of deal and the uni would pay for a service for him and provide a plaque.

Can you still do this sort of thing and if it's possible, would you do it?

Might mention it to my Grandad later. He's a medical mystery....he should have been dead years ago..

It used to be the case that bodies were donated for 1st year medical students to dissect in their thirst for anatomical knowledge.....about 6 students to one body.

I have a suspicion now, that this practice no longer exists in that a Dr, demonstrator,dissects the essential organs in front of the class.

I have a feeling they didn't actually use his body in the end so god knows what they did with it.

I would too. They can have whatever they want when I'm gone. I suspect my lungs will probably get lobbed straight into the furnace though.

Yes, he did die about 20 years ago so I wouldn't be surprised if it has changed since then.

My mum had registered for her body to left to medical science.I had copy of the documents. When she died, we told the hospital of her request, but unfortunately, her body was not suitabe when she died.
