Listener 4124 Travel Guide by Aedites

Much more fun for me this week, challenging but not daunting. It gets much easier once the theme is grasped, but the final straight line takes a bit of spotting. One of those which manages to be educational as well as pretty, and nicely put together. Appreciation to Aedites.

Agree with comments so far. An enjoyable puzzle but not too challenging, all done and dusted in around 1 1/2 hours. Would have been difficult to complete the final place names without access to the Web, not having the local knowledge of some.

Am delighted to join the Saturday club this week; for once saw the final step immediately. An enjoyable puzzle especially after the frustration of 4122 when I'd solved all the clues, had the first grid (and I think the theme) and could go no further.

embarrassed to say i had no idea about the theme until i googled it.all fitted in nicely thereafter.

Lovely puzzle! Only question is there seem to be 3 possible last cells to highlight?

surely 45 has an unintentional misprint [last letter of the third word]? - but enjoyable and an interesting variation on a theme.

Easylistener,, suggest you read the preamble again, there are no cells to highlight ! Following the instructions removes any ambiguity with the final letter.

tilbee - i must be misreading it then because i can't make sense of the third word ending in an 'r' [unless there is another definition i'm missing - and iv'e reread the entries in chambers several times now].maybe you can point me to the page?

Bellabee, not sure if you have a different edition, but Page 1198, right, 5th, and 9th-12th entries. Think I may be missing something ?

Thanks tilbee, I only highlight for my own ease of seeing where the line I have drawn is. I don't submit entries so no worries. And I guess I go to the logical end rather than either of my other 2 possibles.
8d eludes me although I have basically finished the puzzle.

tilbee - we are reading from the same page but i feel i need the variant that ends in 'y' to justify the wordplay [an establishment that could be inhabited by the first word of the answer]

Straightforward and enjoyable puzzle - unlike some from this source, at least one of which has defeated me. 33a seems to contain an indirect anagram but is not difficult to solve.

Tilbee are you suggesting that some members here actually have a connection to such an alien place with it's incomprehensible language?

thanks perseverer i see it now - got hooked on a particular reading - although i think that possibility for a misprint was cunningly laid by aedites [apologies tilbee for going on a bit].

While still a local, I ceased to be a regular user of the theme many years ago, before it changed colour, and when IX was CD

Yes, a theme within one of my own areas of interest, and quite straightforward. Just one assumption - that there is one overall straight line (just possible, i think), and not one line in each affected cell (which I think is trickier)

On further consideration I take back what I said about 33 across. There is an alternative reading which does not contain an indirect anagram.
