i really enjoyed this one. it displays great skill in setting i think. just a pity the 5x5 was given away when it would have been an interesting challenge to find it unaided. the anagram is really well conceived though.

Hello all. Have returned from the Algarve, where I suffered three weeks internet (and thus EV) deprivation, though I did manage to get on-line occasionally. Thus doubly enjoyed this offering, though to be candid, probably because, as a former teacher of English, I am more 'arty' than artless.
Mind you the 20 days of sun and amazingly inexpensive local wines did rather compensate for other amusements !

DocHH - And Heaven forfend that we should all live in separate little bubbles! From your pseudonym I presume you are, like me, a medic, but that's no reason not to read literature. It wasn't only written for Eng Lit graduates.
I only mentioned the Listener because some of the contributors to this thread are regulars on the Listener crossword Answerbank thread. If you don't know the crossword give it a whirl, though it can become an obsession (and mustn't stop you reading).

I visited the final resting place of 954's versifier and found him in illustrious company (Newton, Tennyson, Bacon). Hence delay in commencing and completing this entertaining offering. It reminded me of an episode from the splendid "Sharpe", in which the same item was being sought. Big clue from you dr b, you should be hung "pour encourager les autres".
