Well done Dr b. I hate the internet! I've never heard that poem before. The one I heard, years ago, which was obviously taken from that poem was: The teacher said that that 'that' that that boy wrote, was wrong. Over the years I've asked this puzzle to many people and no-one has ever got it. One work colleague I asked once, though, had a little think before saying: A man goes into a shop and says to the shop assistant, pointing, 'I'll have that, that, that, that, that and that, please.'

The 'had' one is also a 'teacher said' sort; something along the lines of 'Where John had had 'had', Peter had had 'had had'; 'had had' had had the teacher's approval.
