Thanks Lie-in King. I saw Denver Boot on One Look Dict site but didn't investigate further. Silly Me.
Also found matronly but thought it was a sexist answer as didn't include both sexes.

Hi jen - the '?' was simply because it was the 1st word I saw. By "both sexes", do you mean 'patronly'?

Having checked, Chambers doesn't show that word at all, but gives 'matronly' as - "...of middle age...dignified and imposing..."

If 44a is Matronly this makes 36d Calling earnestly (7) ?L?M?N? and can't find a suitable word.

That definitely fits me better but I would have defined myself as "small and slightly plump" but not portly!!
