Is life mapped out for us?
35 Answers
Went to a psychic last night, she seemed pretty spot on for all of us. Got me wondering though, is our life already mapped out for us and no matter what we do it will always end with the same out come? Always been a great believer in everything happens for a reason. What's everyone else's thought on this?

I've yet to encounter a good reason why determinism isn't inevitable. Although the quantum uncertainty principle is something to think about on the small scale stuff.
You think you have control, but the decisions you and other make, aren't they what you would have inevitably come up with given the circumstances at the time? Isn't that apparent control and potential to change your future path just an illusion?
Not saying someone/something has designed your experiences in advance, just that they were inevitable. Unless your favourite deity intervenes that is.

When things seem good it is easy to look back and say that despite the downs, all has proved to turn out for the best. When things seem bad it is easy to look back and say that despite the ups, all has proved to turn out for the worst. Depends on how you want to look at it.
Why would a life 'mapped out' be more or less pointless than one where you are able to make random poor choices? Is there any point anyway? Does there need to be a point?

No I don't think life is mapped out for us, what a logistical nightmare!
I think certain things are easier for some people than others, eg if a parent plays the piano you're more likely to be supported in becoming a concert pianist, or if your grandfather was a fisherman you'd have half an idea how to go about becoming one too. If your relatives have a sense of humour you're probably less likley to be stiff upper lip etc. but I don't beleive there's a master plan. It would have been hacked by now ;-)

I've never wanted to go and see a phsychic in case they told me something bad. I know that they can if you request that kind of info.
I would hate to think that life was mapped out for us, but wouldn't want to know if it was. I would hate to know what was about to happen in life, as there would be no surprise then and i'd probaby dread the bad things.
