I have completed the grid but the symbol that appears in the middle of the 'problem' seems to be repeated near the bottom, when a different symbol would be much more appropriate. I have already made the two exceptions called for in the blurb. Has anyone else encountered this?

Hardest Inquisitor since "No Yens" I reckon.

maybe you are putting bars inside the indian nursemaid [clued without any wordplay]-bars would only go either end and the two skipped bars go from the middle of rows 10 and 11.
...and yes, i thought it was a very tough grid fill too.

Aha, thankyou! I had removed the bars between rows 6 and 7 in columns 4 and 9 which seem to be redundant...
The bars in columns 4 and 9 are worse than redundant - they seem to make it a different problem. I spent some time trying to work out what to do with a solution that was far too long in any format.

Fancy meeting you here, Alilloyd.

Haha, well well! Yes, you are right, especially since "two point nine" fits into the bottom.

In the end I omitted those bars too, in protest.
If you have already made the exceptions called for then the symbol near the bottom may look like a ≠ (not equal to) sign couldn't it?
