Grays Anatomy, 1924 copy.

I have a copy of Grays Anatomy (the anatomical study first published in 1859 and has been updated ever since).
My copy was published in 1924, it's beautiful, the engravings are so clear and slightly haunting in their style. It's a fascinating read, and I'm hoping to learn some detailed anatomy for my career, as well as my own interest. I was just wondering, is it likely to be correct by today's standards? I know they definitely did not know as much back then, about cells etc. but could any of it be wrong?

That is an excellent textbook of Anatomy and the only change would be the naming of some structures, which is a pity as they were so "romantic and poignant" named after anatomists or surgeons that noticed their significance and importance. e.g the veins around the prostate were known as the periprostatic veins of Santorini....the nerve to Latissimus dorsi was known as the "long descending nerve of Bell"

No it is as important and accurate today as it was then, excepty perhaps for the histology section.

I volunteer in an Oxfam shop and sometimes we get old medical books donated. Most of them have been well used and not of any great value. There was one on Venereal Diseases - a guide for nurses. It had pictures of people with nasty illnesses like Syphilis and the pictures really showed the disease at its worst.

I must have a rake around when I go in tomorrow and see what else we have lurking in the office.
