Hi again 8 . across = another word for weather = climate "a"
10 across = another word for church or cathedral =minster "t
16 across= poultry box = coop "o"
19 across = on top of= upon "n" leaving -3 missing letters.

If you can tell me If you think I am wrong and have any other suggestions please let me know?
Bastion certainly fits the pattern, but not the clue. A bastion can be a stronghold, a projecting part of a fortification or a person who defends a principle - I've never come across the word being used as a verb...

Other words which fit the pattern include: cantion, caption, cartoon, caution, faction, taction etc...
a poultry box could be a hock I don't have the crossword clues socan't comment whether changing the 1st,third and last letter works.
having said that it does leave you with a cn at the end
