OK What's occurin here! (Vista)

Last week I had a little issue, ie hijacking, anyway I've mostly, I think cleared up the mess but there is one thing that's not right. When I look at my stored photos in windows file explorer, with the icons that show a small picture, the picture is faint so you can see it but like it's not really there. When you click to open it's fine and views normally. Also in the bit where you set up a picture for your user id, I can select any picture ie a photo rather than the supplied ones, but it just comes out as a white box and does actually change the picture, at the moment I'm defaulting to one of the supplied ones. Any ideas what's happened here?

oh and when I go to the initial logon screen or switch user or lock, it's got my original picture from before all the trouble!

Check the file attributes.

though faint would normally mean they have the hidden attribute set and you've got windows set to show hidden and system files, the first bit is a little strange, the second bit is bad practice.

chuck, you are on to something here, it seems that the system seems to think that a lot of my files are system files when they are not and they are showing dim for the reasons you say. Gawd knows what happened, any idea how I can get back to only having the real system files as system files?
