Alan Bennett, the Yorkshire Playwright - Is he still alive & kicking? Cos I could have sworn I saw him in Norfolk last week. Sat on a wooden rocking chair in the corner of a craft workshop in Morston Quay.
I wanted to approach him & say "Mr Bennett, I loved your Cream Cracker Under the Settee." But, if it wasn't him, then I would have felt a bit of a fool, wouldn't I? ;-)
.
The normally reclusive Alan Bennett, age 77 one of the country's most respected playwrights, yesterday stunned friends and colleagues by revealing that he had battled colon cancer for years.
Could be him, quirky little man, rather doormouse type, but with razor sharp brain. I have loved his work for years, the monologues, often very sad but illuminating.
hope thats the case, we can't have another national treasure popping his clogs, now can we. Time to start repeating his many works i think, and get rid of the rubbish that pervades our tv screens, that passes for entertainment.
Salla I used to see him quite often in North Yorkshire, usually with a very beautiful looking young man. He's quite tall. And I spent "An Evening with Alan Bennett" in Harrogate a few years ago. He really is a treasure.
