Why does the AnswerBank Editor allow it ?

I have noticed that several Quiz Organizers are happy to advertise their forthcoming quizzes on the AnswerBank site, but then go on to request that no answers to questions be posted until a week or so before the closing date, and then they have the cheek to specify and request "clues only" ! May I respectfully remind all who are concerned or interested that this is ANSWER-BANK, and NOT "Clue Bank".
So long as the quiz organisers have their entrance fees, why are they bothered with regard to how the participants in their quizzes obtained their answers ? Let those who do not want to obtain help from Answer Bank refrain from "trawling" its contents.
And if these requests (to not seek AnswerBank help) are allowed to continue, how long will it be, before we are asked not to seek help from our local libraries, or from our own collections of reference books, or from "Google" ?

As long as Site Rules are not broken then I'm sure the Ed does not have a problem.

I think the Ed has addressed this before. It's a question and answer site...he can't stop people asking questions.

i think the answer is in your question. People "request" that the answers aren't asked for, but it's not an edict. You are free to ignore the "request" if you want. The poster is only saying how they would like it to happen, not how it "has" to happen

plus, i would guess that there are so many questions in the Q&P section, the ed could not give a flying fig

Why do you do quizzes if you just want the answer handed to you on a plate. People are asking for answers 2 or 3 days after a quiz comes out and still has several months to go. Whats the point of that? Can a little effort not be put in to find answers. Some of the questions that are asked on here could be answered by a ten year old.

keyboardix I set quizzes for people who genuinely want to do them for themselves but I do not advertise my quizzes on here in fact they are only advertised on my own site. Oddly enough I would rather not have the entrance fee than have a quiz i've spent weeks compiling get ruined by people asking, this is one reason I don't advertise it on here but you are as entitled to your view as I am mine. As we share such differing opinions on quizzes you obviously wont be doing my quizzes any more but I really don't mind losing the sale as I would still prefer to keep my quizzes both Oddbods and Starlight for people who do think like me.

i rather feel this is aimed at my earlier request. i hav discussed this before, so if you cant see any difference between googling an answer and asking on here, then i cant see any point in bothering to explain. All i know is, that since i have asked politely for those doing the quizzes not to ask early, then only ask for clues, I have sold more, which raises more funds for charity, and have so many positive comments from those 'genuine' quizzers who do them for the fun, its worth me asking each time. I assume you too will not be taking part, and i can cope with that too, those who do, do so regularly, which is great.

Keyboardx. I dont think its a question of not wanting people to ask for help its a question of when. I like quizmouse and oddbody compile quizzes and as soon as people start asking about the quiz then the sales seem to stop even though it might have another 2 or 3 months to go. So less money for the Charity. Thats the only reason I dont like people asking as soon as the quiz is out.

I'm inclined to agree with keyboardix. I have amagazine delivered on subscription and have seen requests for help on here before my mag. has even been delivered. These people are obviously not spending enough time trying on their own before asking. I don't mind giving answers after a reasonable time but it does seem pointless to do what they are doing. Puzzles are a great way of keeping the brain active, but it only works if you use you own brain, at least for acouple of days or so before admitting defeat, which is what they are doing if they ask so soon.

As keyboardix says if you don't want to see the answers don't look at them. It is an answer bank. We all ask friends and relations and work mates for help so asking here is just the same. If I have paid for my quiz it is mine and up to me how I get my answers and when.

I have only ever once asked for help with a crossword here when I was absolutely stumped after three days. Yet I have seen people asking for help with a Sunday crossword at 11 pm the night before (obviously available earlier on-line). They can't have puzzled for very long!

Margaretrae – how can you not see the vast difference between asking a friend etc for help and asking here. In the former case you are the only one who gets the answer while the latter route means the answer is available for the world to see.

And if you enter a quiz where the quiz setter has requested that you don’t ask for help on internet sites like this, then you should respect those wishes because otherwise you are effectively cheating. The fact that you’ve paid for the quiz is totally irrelevant – it clearly does not entitle you to get the answers any way you like. If you don’t like the rules of the quiz then don’t buy it.

I would like to point out that I have tonight checked out the legal position on this and I am legally within my rights to make whatever rules I want for my quiz providing I state on the quiz what those rules are and give a box for people to tick or sign to say they will abide by them. I am within my rights to disqualify anyone that doesn't comply with the given rules. More importantly a person buying a copy of the quiz is only buying the right to enter providing they comply to the rules they are not buying any rights to the quiz. I also have the legal right to request ab removes any posts that break the rules and I can legally request the name of anyone breaking those rules in order that I can disqualify them. Legally you can answer any question asked on here it is the askers that are in the wrong for asking when a quiz clearly requests them not to.
