I don't think Barry has ever forgiven himself for retiring when he did - at 26, at the height of his powers. He was such a hero to the Welsh people that, when he walked into a bank to pay a cheque in, the queue parted and the girl behind the counter curtsied. Barry was so freaked by this level of hero-worship that he quit rugby. It says a lot about his status as an international great that he only actually played 25 matches for Wales. Sadly he befriended George Best and went down a similar path.
