Country Music song

I heard a song years ago on the country music channel, but haven't heard it since and wondered if anyone could help me out with the name and singer (I think this is a long shot, but I know how brilliant ABers are!).

The song was about a son, who had always thought his dad was a harsh, strict man who never showed any emotion. When the father died, the son found a small wooden box (this might even be the title) containing a lock of the son's hair and other items from the son's childhood and he realised his father wasn't as unemotional and unloving as the son thought he was.
