Today I was surprised when I opened Windows Mail and was presented with a box which required my username and password to log into my account. I completed the box with what I believed to be correct but each time I tried to send/receive mail I received the following error message.

Account: 'mail.btinternet.com', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [AUTH] Error logging in. Please visit http://mail.yahoo.com', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

In complete frustration I have tried to set-up a new account; having deleted the original. I want mail direct into my computer, as it always was and cannot appreciate the reference to mail.yahoo.com in the error message. I wish to continue with my original name and address.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Ron.

Check your mail account settings against this.
Making the name correct in the Mail Account fields will likely fix it.
Know where the server settings are in the program?
Ron, my btinternet email account comes in via yahoo - it seems quite normal. You don't have to set up a separate yahoo email address, just click mail on the yahoo home page and your bt internet account is there, but it signs in via yahoo.
.. but he doesn't want webmail.
He can fix what he has .. if he gets the account and server settings right.

You are right ALBags......I don't want Webmail. I think BT has done something and is trying to force me to using the e/mail account I was originally given in Yahoo....which is different to the one I have always used.

But try as I will, I'm not really getting anywhere.

Anyway thanks for your response. I am now going to telephone BT and see what reaction I get from (no doubt) India.

I telephoned BT and was given a new password..********* :-)

As a result I am now back in business with mail coming direct to & from my computer, by Windows Mail.

Thanks again folks.....Ron
