grasscarp, the week I joined Answerbank, I won a tenner in our local paper's crossword competition, and for that ONE WEEK ONLY, I had my name in the paper and I was "The Winner", as in "the winner is ..............." I could not think of a user name for AB, so chose that. This week, I thought to myself, I might have another go at the crossword competition in our paper, and lo and behold, the top prize is now £5! I know times are hard, but surely they are having a laugh?

Go for it. Local newspapers are always undersubscribed for their competitions. I heard of a case where they had some cameras to give away and there were less entrants than prizes. I once entered a local newspaper comp and won five grands worth of home improvements (energy efficiency type). I only entered cos I wanted the washing machine, which was a second prize but got one anyway in the first prize. Glad that you have been a winner in the past. He who dares wins!

Hey lucky you! I have won a few prizes in different competitions. I love it when I win! No matter how small, I am grateful for anything.

I am always drawn to enter competitions. I have won some good prizes over the years and some things have turned up and I dont even remember the competition. This year I won an ipad 2 in a competition at work. I entered because I thought I could get an amazon voucher, which were the runner up prizes. I am not lucky - just persistent!
