anniew, it depends on where the quiz question originated. You are right there are 7 continents to British and Europeans.
1.australia
2. africa
3. antartica
4. north america
5. south america
6. north america
7. asia

but stateside they say
1.australia
2.africa
3.antartica
4. EURASIA
5. AMERICAS

in other words europe and asia are the same joined together piece of land which is true, it's also true of N and south america. You can walk from the states to peru without getting your feet wet.
In my first list I put n. america twice instead of including europe.

10 Landing Wheels on Concorde

See http://www.concordesst.com/ for confirmation

Iwas taught many years ago that there were five continents and the Olympic flag seems to bear that out.

But then, there isn't much of a population in Antartica.

This from a website called Olympic Rings

According to most accounts, the rings were adopted by Baron Pierre de Coubertin (founder of the modern Olympic Movement) in 1913 after he saw a similar design on an artifact from ancient Greece.  The five rings represent the five major regions of the world: Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Every national flag in the world includes at least one of the five colors, which are (from left to right) blue, yellow, black, green, and red.  It is important to emphasize that Pierre de Coubertin never said nor wrote that the colors of the rings were linked with the different continents
