I can see that RINGER is consecutive letters in the clue- is a ringer also a spit?
ringer = copy = (dead) spit

Brilliant answers! - Should have seen the Germany clue and the hat one really. Actually had CANED down, but didn't see why..............oh well, at least I have now finished it all. Thanks again!
RINGER is obviously the answer but SPIT and RINGER aren't the same thing, in my book. You can be the "spit of" or a "dead ringer for" but they don't mean the same thing on their own
