...I have about 500gms of silver and gold nicknacks from the Middle East which aren't hallmarked,can I still sell them as scrap for cash.?

Your best bet is take them to a jeweller who will be able to test the metals for purity.
On the 15th gold was $1,819 per troy ounce, silver was $40.53 per ounce.

Don't mess about like that. Take it to an Indian Gold shop.

They know what it is .. about 24 carat .. like Thai gold. They will give you a better price than high street jewellers will (for un-hallmarked gold) and will add it to the melting pot.
I bought some gold jewellery in the Middle East yonks ago, and when I had it valued for insurance, the High Street jeweller found it really difficult as it was 24 carat, no markings. See if you can find a shop such as Albags suggests, you will get a more realistic price for the higher quality gold.
