why are there so many reality tv programs based around essex

why oh why do we get subjected to such drivel on tv as towie another one about chelsea and now there's one about education essex. talk about over kill. i can avoid the programs but there's one advertised everytime there is an advert its so annoying. i just wonder who watches this drivel

As already said, because they cost peanuts to make. Shove a load of chavs in a house, provide them with copious amounts of alcohol and that's your show made!
As dave says, their target audience are the brain dead morons that make up today's "dumbed down" society.

X factor is dross, embarrassing for all, it's like feeding the Christians to the Lions, without the bloodloss, except you see the poor souls slump off stage, and know that they are deluded fools, who just go on feeding the machine that is reality tv.

flip i watch x factor too that doesnt count because there are some talented people on there and it is worth watching.
what i really hate about these 'reality' shows is the language they use why do they have to shorten words do they think its cool or are they so thick as to be unable to use our language properly

I like to watch TV occasionally for light relief, something light and frothy and doesn't require much thought. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion. No need to call us that do it stupid, or brain dead or any other insult you care to fling at us.

I hate ALL Reality TV shows...........and I also hate that the Reality TV section over there <<<<<<<<<< is so little used with most Reality TV-based questions ending up in ChatterBank.

because we're all voyeurs, it's bringing people watching to your screen, it's the same reason soap operas have always been so popular.
I think it's too easy to write them all off as entertainment for the braindead, it has to be more than that to find basic interaction between a handful of people so appealling.
Compare, say, TOWIE to Downton Abbey, it's not the acting that's of interest in DA, it's essentially a show about a slice of life you haven't encountered based in the past, TOWIE is simply a slice of life some people may have encountered based in the present. Would the show with which more people could associate not be expected to be the more popular?
Just to clarify, I don't watch TOWIE or BB (by choice), but I did see Downton Abbey on Sunday..well part of it, it bored me so I dozed while the lass enjoyed it.

Lozzer, I actually cringe when I hear people say the whole "well jel" (jealous) thing.

B00, I too like to veg out infront of the TV from time to time and stick to "easy viewing". I just hate this crap and, more importantly, the people who feature in these shows.
As I said, I can't comment on TOWIE as I haven't seen it. I have seen Geordie Shore and BB though and, quite frankly, would rather stick pins in my eyes than have to watch them again! Terrible TV, in my opinion.

Give me a good ITV drama any day!
