Help Finding the Name of a Vessel

Hello

I am hoping someone will be able to help me locate the name of a boat/ship/vessel, call it what you will. I understand that Find My Past would be my best bet locating this information. Unfortunately I let my subscription slide last year and money is too tight to re-new it as yet. Can anyone help find the information, it would be much appreciated.

My step great grandfather Albert Riggall was a merchant seaman. He died on 9th February 1946 (of peritonitis) at sea. I think it was somewhere off the Hull coast as I’ve been given to understand they had only just left port, but as this is only word of mouth it could be incorrect. I would like to find out the name of the vessel he died on and any other information regarding the circumstances if that is possible and if the vessel is still sailing.

I've tried googling the Cynthia but can't find any mention of one that would have been in service in 1946.....................

I’ve also just had a quick Google, but, like you have drawn a blank. I came across the site of the Fishing Heritage Centre in Grimsby that covers Grimsby's Maritime history. I think the best thing I can do is to contact them and see if they can help in some way. Thank you again for your time and information much obliged.

Just been having another look and I have come across a site called Miramar Ship Index, see link below if interested. They offer a free 7 day trial, which I enrolled on. Their results have given me 64 vessels with the name Cynthia as all or part of its name. Of these there are 27 vessels listed that were built before 1946. Some are now scrapped, others are Royal Navy vessels leaving me with 18/19 possibilities!

The following is from lost fisherman on Grimsby trawlers........I assume the GY392 is the Cynthia's number..........


GY.392 Cynthia.
A. W. Weavers. Died on Tuesday 16th June 1936.
W. S. Sanderson. Died on Sunday 28th June 1942.
A. Riggall. Died on Saturday 9th February 1946.

yes A Riggall is deffinatly him.... erm sunk 1902 yes confused??

GY392 has been reissued at least twice. The way I read it the Canadian was sunk in 1902. The registration was then attached to the Lord Selborne and finally to the Cynthia.
