MM Links November 2011 Week 2

This is 'Regal Roslyn' back for week 2,
After our adventure on Fraser Island we flew back to Brisbane. We were only staying for one day and decided a hire-car would get us round quickly. Bad mistake! Even with our maps we went wrong immediately as we left the airport – the maps bore no resemblance whatsoever to the roads! Eventually we found our way to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary - home to 130+ koalas of all ages. It was wet when we arrived and some koalas outside were looking very bedraggled and sorry for themselves. However we were soon in the big indoor koala enclosure amidst all the oohs and ahs! Of course I had to hold one and have my photo taken! Others were having their photo holding a python or rather with a python draped round them! Not for me! Lone Pine has all the usual Australian animals too just like a small zoo. It was fun to wander amongst the kangaroos in their field typically always looking for more food. Lorikeet feeding time was amazing. They knew when it was food time and arrived in great numbers, early for their watery gruel-type mix of cereal, oats, vitamins and minerals. After the bird of prey show John had his photo holding a massive sea-eagle.
The next morning saw us catching the greyhound bus to Surfers’ Paradise, but again we got lost on the way to drop off the car, and before we knew it we were in the wrong lane and crossing Brisbane Suspension Bridge complete with tolls both ways. Although the toll-meter in the car kept clicking we never did get a bill for all the tolls!Arriving at Surfers, which was to be our base for the next 5 days, we were pleasantly surprised to be told we had been given an upgrade and were now in the Penthouse Apartment on the 10th floor overlooking the ocean! Accommodation does not come much better than this! Surfers is home to Q1 Tower – the tallest building in Oz and 3rd tallest residential tower in the world. The weather was good and we thoroughly enjoyed relaxing on the beach for a few days.

More rain as we arrived at Proserpine where the luggage carousel was noticeable in its absence – it was “collect your own” from the tarmac! But by the time our shuttle arrived at Airlie Beach the sun was shining and that was a sign of things to come. Only days before many trips to the Great Barrier Reef had either been cancelled or had gone ahead in dire weather. At noon the next day we boarded “Venus” built at Gosport in 1947. We had probably chosen the wrong trip as we were the oldest passengers apart from the captain! However all the youngsters were eager to look after us and the foreigners amongst them were happy to practise their English on us. We sailed out to Hook Island where we spent the first night. Next morning we were back on the boat for breakfast at 6.30 ready to set sail for Whitehaven Beach where we were going to snorkel for the first time. As it was jellyfish season we all had to be kitted out with the regulation Stinger Suits which were not easy to get on! The snorkelling during the next couple of days proved to be amazing. All too soon it was over and we were back at Airlie Beach for a brief rest before heading North on the next part of our trip to Townsville & Magnetic island.
According to normal practice, for the everyday running of MM, I shall follow this rule on word length, in that each of my pre-selected link words contains at least four letters and at most eight letters. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts!
Each of the selected link words may go in front of, or behind my challenge word.
The competition will officially close on Sunday Evening at 7.00pm, when gen2 will declare my pre-selected words and then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past. My set of four words to have their links predicted should appear below at 9.00am.
