Answer is allude. I understand though I am pretty dull the unspiring reflection but why setter initially puts the a + e to give allude

Once again you've hit the nail on the head it's Alun Evans - initially a e
maybe the uninspiring refers to people like me but I did think that cryptic crosswords should be self contained and not include obscure references like that.
I find quite a few setters do that. Glad you got it answered though.
