Did he gauge the challenge by the bowlful (8,6) .....Could that be Sherlock Holmes with his pipebowl??

A total guess (mainly because it fits the number of letters) - Nancy Drew? I could imagine that she might regard her father as a hero since he's an attorney but that is just guesswork.
