Horse Book
7 Answers
Hi All, I am trying to trace a horse book I was given as a child when I was learning to ride in the early 1970s. I would like to get the same book for my own daughter now she is learning to ride also. I think the title of it was "Horses and Ponies". It was hardcover with a greenish cover and bought from Target store in Australia. There were chapters on horse breeds, racing, steeplechasing and trotting, dressage, eventing and showjumping and training horses at the Spanish Riding School of Vienna. The section on breeds discussed almost every breed in the world with colour photos - two in particular that I remember were of the Akhal-Teke and Tennessee Walking Horse (or saddlebred). The section on racing had a photo of Man'O'War and a description of a match race between Man'O'War and Sir Barton - talking about Man'O'War running an "explosion race" and running Sir Barton off his feet. The section on eventing had a photo of Lucinda Prior-Palmer on Be Fair with a caption something like "cross country needs a bold and willing horse - Lucinda Prior-Palmer brings out these qualities in Be Fair". I have scoured the internet for over a year, however, cannot find a book with the cover I remember. I am hoping someone can help.
