17 down "Embarrassed about swallowing pub grub" ?I?N?R (I presume the answer is dinner, but i can't see why)

24a has already been explained - do a search...

Ayreshire - anag....lower = cattle
17 embarrassed = red around Inn
17d red reversed around inn

24 a a and anag of isheery = ayrshire ( lower = cow)
17d Embarrassed (red) about (backwards) swallowing pub (inn) = DinnER
24a Ayreshire - a cow or 'lower'
