The Mail on Sunday Prize Crosswords - Postage
10 Answers
I do the Sir Lancelot and General Knowledge crosswords each week. Have been doing them for years now and if I ever won, any prize money would compensate for postage! I was just wondering how many of you use first or second class stamps. These crosswords have to be received in Norwich by Friday and I post them on Monday which means if I use a first class stamp they would be received the next day. Does seem a bit of a waste of a first class stamp, although I don't want to lose my chances of winning!!

I always post 2nd class [ thats dear enough for me]and by Monday morning first post giving them ample time to get there. Over the years I have won £200 on the Sat Tel Gen knowledge and £ 100 on the Mon Crusader, I have spent far more than this in postage.
I have been told by a post office worker that if a lot of letters are going to Sutton Coldfield for instance they dont send 1st class one day an the 2nd class the next they all go in the same bag, I have no way of knowing if this is true.

Hi Ann, I to have been completing both the Sir Lancelot and prize crosswords for many years with the same results as you!! I always use "second class", postage as the Royal Mail cannot guarantee next day delivery of "First class", mail. If we all put second class stamps on our mail it would it would negate,(at a stroke) , the overpriced and inefficient "Ist class". I often wonder if ALL the correct answers go into the "hat" so to speak, or am I being cynical? After all, with the recent revelations regarding the print media, would you take their word for it that they put ALL correct answers in the "hat". I think not, but I will continue to complete the crosswords as an intellectual exercise. Best regards, axiom70
