So long as you believe in some sort of god, Indonesias constitution thinks thats ok. Apostasy, or non belief however? Blasphemy!! Baying mobs, physical abuse, loss of employment and prison are your future :)

I am constantly amazed at how weak and feeble these gods are, that they need people to react in such extreme ways. And what does it say about the faithful, that they can tolerate no criticism, no alternate view that they create laws to control expression and thought?

Yet another example of the retrograde and malign influence of religion....

Naomi, i'm not speechless, this is just another example of mankind tying itself into any knot available, and not extricating itself by dint of common sense, and reason. I wonder why people follow so blindly even when faced with such extreme behaviour on the part of the leaders, a divine right to harm others for their beliefs.

people are seduced into acts of madness or evil by dehumanising and labelling others. even on ab news if certain words are posted the thread automatically takes two sides. which one is wrong? well none because they all believe that they are all in the right. human psychology.

many psychological tests and experiements have been carried out over the years to demonstrate the capacity of good people to do bad things, if they are convinced the 'wolf' is right.

is religion any different because there really is no basis for that prejudice and hatred of anyone different? is it any different from duffing someone up because of their colour, their social status or the team they support?

no. but when it comes to maniacal medieval laws that permits it or encourages it. then yes. tragic.

In many cases, it is religion that the politician appeals to as the underwriter of their authority.

What a destructive philosophy this is. You have to believe in something - otherwise you're breaking the law. It wouldn't surprise me if there were a lot of liars in Indonesia!

It is apparent that as we humans evolve, more and more of us become aware that religion is the most destructive force in the world.
Tyrants and terrorists have been successful in spreading fear and control under the guise of religion for thousands of years.

The sooner we get a more enlightened world, the better.

Sandy.. there may be 'essential truths' in some religions but I doubt that anyone will ever find them amongst the 'untruths'
