I honestly can't understand why you're confused. There are more mountains than the Rockies in the USA. The wiki link you posted clearly shows that the Rocky Mountains are just a part of what constitutes the Mountain States.

Either the question is factually incorrect or the OP has made an error with the number of letters because none of the United States that the the Rockies go through has six letters:

Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico
