As so often seems to happen, I find myself stuck on one final clue which no-one else has asked about. What that says about me, I have no idea! Most of the others asked about I already got myself.
6d: "Release a Feanch piano, say" (5) u-p-g Presumably un..something, but I can't get it. Could it be unpeg? But that doesn't seem to fully fit the clue.

Unpeg (un p e.g.)
un = french a
p = piano
eg = say
Un = french + P =Piano + E = say

Unpeg
That should have been Eg + say

Thank you all very much. I just didn't see the eg bit. Thanks.
Un - a(one) in French
P - piano (quiet)
eg - say (for example)
