I thought the answer was nine as the square root of nine is 2

factor could be right. What is the clue that gives you the 'u'?

the square root of nine is three.
but root three is cube.
the product of three equal factors: the cube of 2 is 2 × 2 × 2 (usually written 2³)

below is a link to show how root three and square root of three are written. i do not have these symbols on my pc (hence the link). you will see how the 3 precedes the root and how the 3 sits in the root. hope this helped : )
